The story of Le Petit Voilier began in 1991 with the opening of the Carrefour daycare by the school and community centre committee. The organization officially took shape in 1998 with the incorporation of the non-profit organization La Garderie Le Petit Voilier. Over the years, new centres have opened to meet the growing needs of Francophone families: Beaubassin and Bois-Joli in 2000, Sommet in 2010, Grand-Portage in 2014, and then Tournesol in 2015.

Today, Le Petit Voilier comprises six centers located in Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and Lower
Sackville, and has nearly 100 employees. The organization offers learning and training services.
childcare and school-based childcare, while maintaining a vision focused on welcoming and
equity, promoted in particular by its inclusion service, which supports all children
French speakers, whatever their needs.
Deeply rooted in the Acadian and Francophone community, Le Petit Voilier collaborates with several key partners, including CSAP, CAPENÉ, CDÉNÉ, IFNÉ, Nova Scotia Works, Réseau Santé Nouvelle-Écosse, the IWK, SIDPENÉ, and Nova Scotia Hearing and Speech Centres. Located directly within CSAP schools, our centres provide a unique educational continuity that supports a smooth transition to school and strengthens Francophone identity from early childhood.
With the expansion of its services in rural areas thanks to its projects with CAPENÉ, and with the opening of the new Mer et Monde center planned for 2026, Le Petit Voilier continues its growth
and confirms its essential role in the development of early childhood education in French-speaking countries.
